Committed Buddhist Practitioners Group

“Alert to the needs of the journey,
those on the path of awareness,
like swans, glide on,
leaving behind their former resting places.”

This intimate group of committed Buddhist practitioners meets weekly to meditate, listen to Buddhist teachings, and discuss how we apply Buddhist perspectives to the challenges of our daily lives. We meet on Tuesdays, 3-4:30 p.m., with a group size averaging about 12 members, all of whom have an ongoing Buddhist meditation practice. Membership is generally stable.

We begin by meditating silently for 30 minutes. Next we listen to a short presentation by one of the group members, focusing on something related to Buddhism such as an excerpt from a dharma talk or a book or a description of a recent experience that challenged us in our practice.  We then have an open discussion touching on the material of the presentation or something else relevant to our lives as practitioners.

The group is primarily a vehicle to support a personal meditation practice and to learn about ourselves in the context of a Buddhist perspective on life.

Those interested in joining may contact the Membership Coordinator, Anne Winter, at [email protected] or (408) 329-2230.  For general information, contact the General Coordinator, Emily Serkin, at [email protected] or 510-209-7962.

Sangha is a Sanskrit and Pali word that translates to association, assembly, company, or community. Most commonly, it refers to the Buddhist monastic order OR a community of practitioners who come together to support each other in their spiritual growth.
